Fourth ULLA Summer School in Copenhagen
The Danish University of Pharmaceutical
Sciences was the host institution for the Fourth ULLA Summer
School held in Copenhagen from 30 June to 9 July 1999. The
following is a short outline of the activities during the
Summer School.
37 courses (each of a duration
of 1 to 2 days) were held during the Summer School for the
many participants;
- PhD students from the ULLA institutions (Faculty of Pharmacy,
Uppsala University, London School of Pharmacy, Leiden/Amsterdam
Centre of Drug Research, Faculty of Pharmacy, University
Paris Sud and the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences)
- PhD students from other universities (University of Utrecht,
University of Groningen, University of Warsaw, University
of South Australia)
- Young researchers from industry (LEO Pharmaceutical Company,
H. Lundbeck A/S, Novo Nordisk A/S).
The Summer School courses dealt
with different areas within the pharmaceutical sciences but
also courses of more general interest were held, for instance,
"Scientific Writing" and "Statistics and Strategies
for Experimental Design".

Organisers and teaching staff
of the courses came primarily from the ULLA institutions,
in some cases staff also came from other educational institutions
and from industry (Astra Arcus, Plougmann, Vingtoft &
Partners, Løvens Läkemedel, N.V. Organon, H. Lundbeck,
Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, Novo Nordisk, Protana to mention some
of them).
Besides the courses other activities
were organised during the Summer School: On Sunday 4 July
a symposium was held on "Drugs in the 21st Century -
Challenges and Opportunities". The presentations of the
speakers were appreciated:

who opened their doors on Tuesday 6 July: H. Lundbeck, Novo
Nordisk and LEO Pharmaceutical Company.
During the whole Summer School,
the participants' posters were displayed in the corridors
of the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
An important aspect of the Summer
School was the social activities, including a visit to Dyrehaven/Bakken,
a dancing night, a boat trip in the canals of Copenhagen and
the ULLA CUP which was won by LACDR.
